2011-02-07 A new year...

To have music as a hobby is great. To create a song is for me like drawing a painting. A fantastic feeling when you find out that the melodies in your head actually made it into this song. A kick I can not be without, the biggest kick for me:-). I write music as a hobby, as you may be aware of the fact that not many people can live on it. It should of course be a dream if it one day comes true, though being a realist and been making music for 20+ years now I am modest about it.

C C C P E P by Some Kind of Rubus did really great on the different local radio stations in Sweden and some abroad, got some great reviews and we even did the Number One Spot on the Swedish National Local Radio Chart back in June of 2010, with the song Chop Song. All the songs can be bought on most download sites like iTunes, cdon.com, bengans, etc etc (just google it up) and if someone wants the actual cd with the fantastic cover of our cat, just step into my contact info on this site or be a member of somekindofrubus.com or our official facebook site. More reviews are still coming in and we are also happy to inform you that 4 new songs are ready for mix and will be out one by one from March of 2011 on iTunes. First single will be "Mayday". These are the best songs yet and the production is fantastic!

I have also started a collaboration with former Burn and Squeeler guitarist Ilpo Ylitalo. Check out the demo "Tough On Love" on the Side Efect facebook site. Great to sing some rock n roll again.

First gig of the year is coming up. In Eskilstuna, on the 17:th of March, more to come soon...

All the best, Emil

2009-01-04 Latest News
After a year full of changes in the private life, it's time to take Some Kind of Rubus back on the map. We want to thank for the support during 2008, especially to those who reviewed our EP, and also to Graeme Scott for playing the MicrophoneMotherHippo EP on Scottish radio several times during 2008. And of course to those of you who bought it, all money is going directly into next recordings. Next gigs will be two nights in a row at legendary Engelen, Stockholm,  and we really hope to see You there! 8-9:th of February, be there!
2008-05-02 Two reviews and a gig

A couple of truly heartwarming reviews of the EP have made us smile from ear to ear - check them out!
www.zeromagazine.nu/rec.asp?id=2117 (review in Swedish)

http://www.metalcovenant.com/pages/cdreviews/microphone_mother_hippo.htm (this one's in English)
Seeing as we have been spending the last few weeks working on new material, these amazing reviews just make us even more excited about getting some more songs recorded - probably in the not too distant future!
Speaking of new songs: we have five new tunes ready that we are r e a l l y excited about! And what better way to show them off than at a gig, huh? Yes, Rubus will hit the stage again, this time opening for legendary Swedish band Perssons Pack at Två lingon & Blåbär in Västerås on may 17th.
We are so determined to rock even harder than DIO does, we are thinking about demanding that everyone attending bring a note from their mom saying something like "I hereby agree that my son/daughter is fully prepared for the sonic punishment you are about to inflict. Any euphoria experienced will not be held against the members of Some Kind of Rubus."
So, dear friends, check out http://go.to/clubrockers and get your tickets, 'cause we hear they will be gone pretty soon!
Well, that's pretty much it for now. Don't forget to pick up the EP - instructions are just a click away at http://www.whyevenbother.com/SKoR/order_cd.html

2007-09-05 For Those About To Rock
Currently looking on 5-6 potential song ideas we will put down to 3 for professional recordings in week 38 at Roosters Productions in Stockholm. At the same time Emil is doing a guest slot with AC/DC tribute band Belford this coming weekend. So if you are near Stockholm on the 7-8:th of September, go to Sveavägen 90 and Pub Anchor to see him/them do songs from the Back In Black and For Those About To Rock albums after midnight (and after Bon Scott set) these dates. It will be total AC/DC mayhem!
2007-08-28 Breakout Magazine Review and latest news

Hi all, below a translation of German magazine Breakout Magazine's review of our demo, issued now in German language (paper form) on the continent (September issue). We are at the moment rehearsing songs, making decisions of having a choir when playing live and also selecting the best ideas for the upcoming professional recordings we will do at Roosters Studios in Stockholm week 38. All the best from the boys in the band.

Some Kind Of Rubus „Some Kind Of Rubus"

I guess there is no other country in Europe like Sweden, where so many active musicians live. The just released Some Kind Of Rubus demo cd is another proof for this. This band was founded by ex-Nerved singer Emil Gammeltoft, who takes with his new project quite a different musical direction as in the past. In former days Emil was more influenced by real metal music but now with Some Kind Of Rubus he found a special folk rock identity. The seven new songs on this cd are the right stuff for all the Slade and old schooled Nazareth fans. Emil and his friends do not use only the typical rock guitars but also the electric fiddles. The Swedish guys serve with the opener "Hippo" the first real hit single, which should not be unheard so much longer even in the rest of Europe. Some Kind Of Rubus got in the last few weeks many positive fan reactions at some internet platforms. "My Balloon" could also be a chart breaker and after only one rotation in the player the track stays in your head for a long time. The rocking and grooving "U Turn" is a cool rock song with some trumpet sounds in the background, a bit funky indeed. The more you listen to the song, the deeper you get into it, great. The sound is a little bit thin, but absolutely okay for a self recorded and self produced demo cd. It would be a pity if this band from Sweden would be unheard, because there exists so much musical potential and creativity in their songs. So feel free to check out the Some Kind Of Rubus myspace-site http://www.myspace.com/somekindofrubus and listen to how a modern folk rock band should sound like nowadays. I can't understand why there is still no label signing the band but this kind of music is surely not a typical fast sale product for the kiddies. Tom Klaner Breakout Magazine

2007-07-28 Interview with Emil up on Allears!

Link: http://www.allears.se/ArticleHolder.aspx?articleId=27d7be02-4cc6-4f4c-81b7-bfe2402682cc

SOME KIND OF RUBUS IS THIS WEEK'S ROCKET ON ALLEARS! (veckans raket)!

2007-07-08 Autumn Calendar

Things are happening a bit fast now and it all looks very postive. This is the agenda for the autumn as it looks today. As you may understand this agenda may change but it gives a good view of what is on the coming months.

Now: Decided: Our drummer is called Robert Iversen. Give him a big welcome. He did the drums on "my balloon" a while back ago, he is also the drummer of "Another Band" from Sweden. We have just started rehearsals and looking at all the various new song ideas.

Not decided: We are maybe looking for a sixth guy who will be a team player playing both keyboards and rhythm guitars. At least live.

July: vacation and songwriting

August: We MAY do a recording with a Mhina/Gammeltoft/Johansson song called "Rock N Roll Star" which we already wrote back in 1996. This song has been kept a secret until now and we have been offered to do a "versus" thing on this song with upcoming "rock meet dance" combo "Hooligans". We haven't signed anything yet, but if we do, it will be released as a single on a "Major" in december/january.

September: Recordings of (at least) 2 new S.K.O.R. songs, Emil will also do some gigs with Scandinavia´s best AC/DC tribute band Belford on 7-8:th of  September at Anchor in Stockholm. Watch him as "Brian Johnson" on stage after midnight these dates.

October: S.K.O.R. will have a showcase at one of Stockholm's biggest and best clubs (more news about this when confirmed). Exact date is not yet decided, but we think one of the first two weeks of October. If we do good we may be "regulars" from next year (we appreciate all who can come on our first gigs ok!!) at this place.

More soon. As you can see we are happy things are happening.

Happy summer from all of us

rgds Emil, Örjan, Petter, Kim and Robert

2006-10-16 Eurovision 100-list
We just got informed that one of the songs we have recorded did reach the top 100 list of songs that was talked about to join the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest finals. Although we were not one of the 34 chosen tracks, we're happy to understand that the jury had us in mind of more than 3 200 songs.
2006-09-19 Emils corner updated.
Another song is recorded, this time "Very Much Mini". More info on what's happening, please visit "Emils corner" on this site!
2006-08-02 Music Publisher company agreement
We are happy to confirm that Stockholm Rover have done an agreement with a music publishing company. More info about all facts will come as we get them! As of songwriting, two more songs are almost ready to record. Hopefully a full album will see the light of day in 2007! Stay tuned! It's now time to celebrate that everything goes well plan-wise! Stay tuned!
2006-06-20 Working name: Stockholm Rover!
We needed a band name, still a working name, but we're all located in Stockholm and we're all rovers, so why not! Our first demo is now up for grabs and the plan is to visit some record company people from week 26. The three song demo is called "Summer EP Demo 2006" and will not be sold until the PR men have decided if they're interested or not. The music is a mix between rock and folk music, almost Irish and Celtic in sound, but with a modern touch mixed with some high energy punk and rock vibes. We're all excited about this demo and look forward to hear views from the music business people. Keep your thumbs crossed and thanx for continued support!!!
2006-05-23 A Balloon filled with rock!
The songs "Hippo" and "The One" are almost there. The computer crash is solved and there is just some work on the drum sound before they are finished as a good demo.
It goes without saying that we need a follow up to "Hippo" and a new song is being recorded at this moment. Guitars and drums this week, Emils vocals and the fiddles week 22. The new song is called "My Balloon" and for this one we hire a drummer called Robert Iversen. No companies will hear any songs untill this song is completed. Stay tuned!

2006-05-02 Computer crash from hell.
Two songs were almost totally finished in April when Magila Boys Studio, where the songs have been recorded, had a major computer crash. Both songs are forced to be put on hold untill the problem is solved. Apart from Örjan, Petter and Mally, also guitarist Micael Cronhag has put his contribution to one of the songs.
2006-03-24 In the studio!
Piece by piece the new project is coming together. As of yet, untitled, though the music is progressing to a mix between rock and folk music. Two songs are getting recorded at this moment: working titles are "The One" and "Hippopotamus and the bumble bee". Joining Emil in the studio are Örjan Johansson on lead guitars and Petter Axelsson on fiddles. Producer is the one and only mr Tino Mhina.
Watch the boys in action HERE. Hired for the drum job on these two songs is Mats "Mally" Hoxell.
2006-02-23 New music download.
The collaboration with Manny Charlton led to three tracks being recorded in 2005. One of them is Fallen Angel, a remake of the Nazareth classic from the bands golden years. Hear it now at this site, brought to you by the kind permission of Manny and Emil. Go to the download department!
2006-01-03 First music download is up!
A new year with new opportunities! From today Emils corner is born, where you can read, both in English and Swedish, about Emil´s plans and thoughts..
Also from today...drumroll......the first download is up on this site! The song is called Showtime and is a raw demo done just before Emil joined Nerved. Comments are more than welcome on this website´s guestbook!
